January 23

Here at Resound, we are always trying to better serve the student body of Cedarville University. That means that even though we made so many great changes last semester and added so many shows and features, we’re making our existing shows better and adding even more. We are now airing six shows, Sunday through Thursday. It’s the best line-up we have ever offered!

The week begins on Sundays at 7:00 PM with The Throwback: The Classics of Christian Rock. SGA Chaplain and resident self-proclaimed expert of classic Christian music hits Craig Houser along with Brittaney Randolph play their favorites of all genres from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. We started this show last semester, and they have yet to play even one song a second time. Even though the songs are old, the show is always new.

Monday night at 7:00 is Counter Point. Sit down with Daniel Zimmerman, Jesse Jones and their special guest every week to learn about the issues that face our world today. This semester they will be discussing issues that are global, and some that are a little closer to home. Stay tuned to hear about missions work in the Middle East, the gay rights movement, stem cell research, and the differing opinions of what Jihad really means. If you have any questions on the topics, make sure to e-mail the station so that Daniel and Jesse can speak up for you during “Campus Questions.”

Next in our line-up on Tuesdays is Lithos. In Greek, lithos means rock, and that’s what this show is all about. Chris Powers and Bekah Drum both work for Resound, but they really have a heart for the harder music. So every week we turn the station over to them to play the hard Christian rock they love. Tune in to stay in touch with the newest artists and songs that you cannot get anywhere else. And if you really love the show, make sure to catch the encore airing on Saturday nights.

On Wednesdays Aaron Griggs and Peter Mitchell keep you up-to-date with our intercollegiate sports program, After the Buzzer. They give a run-down of the weeks games, look ahead to games coming up, and interview athletes and coaches. It is the full package for the Jackets fan. New this semester, Aaron and Peter are going to focus on national sports as well as campus sports. So now you can hear about the teams you grew up with as well as the team you live with all in one great show.

Finally on Thursday nights we’re doing our brand-new show: Seven @ Seven. If you listed music as one of your interests on Facebook, you definitely want to catch this show. Jarrod Steinmetz and Andrew Hall will be playing the top seven songs as compiled by Radio and Records Magazine at 7:00. This show is one of the best ways to easily stay in touch with what’s happening in the world of Christian Hit Radio.

And of course Monday through Thursday from 9:00-11:00 Dave Stephens hosts The ‘Ville Tonight. Bringing guest hosts to the show every night keeps the show fresh, alive and active. But nothing keeps this show more active than the fact that it is all about you. Call in (x8818) every night to request songs, register for the prize pack, and just talk with Dave about whatever is on your mind. Plus this show has several features you cannot get anywhere else: Monday’s Countdown, Tuesday’s “Ten O’clock Top Tune Tournament,” Wednesday’s “Flava of the Week,” and Thursday’s debut of “Behind the Screen.” All that content plus great music equals one fantastic show.

We know that this is a lot of content for you to pack into your full-time-student life. But do not fret. That’s the exact reason we set up our podcasts. Go ahead and check it out at ResoundRadio.com. It allows you to hear our great shows on your timetable. Plus we podcast all our other features like Verse of the Day, Sidewalk Talk, ‘Ville Flashback, Behind the Screen and more.

Now all six of these great shows and our many other features are for you. So let us know what you think. If we can make them even better, tell us how. E-mail the station or go ahead and just stop by. We’d love to hear your opinion so that we can better serve you. After all, without you Resound Radio wouldn’t be here.

October 29

We’ve heard several questions regarding our latest promotion, “Cedarville’s Most Wanted.”  Since these questions bring up some valid points in the realm of promotions, we’d like to go ahead and answer them so that the student body better understands why and how we do what we do.

As you may know, “Cedarville’s Most Wanted” rewards the listeners of Resound by giving them prizes for listening to the station.  Prizes include speakers, iPod Touches, and an Apple MacBook.  The David Crowder Band concert package given away on Friday, October 26, was also related to the giveaway (congrats to Stephen Pupillo for winning that!). The questions that we’ve heard are in regards to why we are giving away these particular prizes and how we’re paying for them.

First of all, let us assure you that the student body has not contributed financially for this promotion.  None of your tuition money has gone toward the MacBook, the iPod touches, or anything else we’ve given away or will give away in the future.  Each one of the prizes given by Resound is funded by sponsors.  In fact, Resound receives a minimal budget from the university.  We are given 75 cents per student per semester, but that money goes toward regular operating costs, such as music licensing fees, basic office costs, paying for meals during getting started week (when we set up the station), new broadcasting equipment, and more.   Even the large screen out in front of our station (and the computer that runs the screen) were donations, and were in no way purchased with our budget from the university.  Our sales directors have done an excellent job of raising money for the station, and they're continuing to provide us with the funding we need for general operating costs, department head stipends, and lots of money for our student-focused promotions.  There’s no need to worry about your tuition money funding someone else’s computer or iPod.

Secondly, we’d like to answer the “why” part of our promotions.  Why is it that we’re giving away these prizes?  Allow me start with the basics. Our primary purpose as a professional student radio station is actually two-fold: we exist (1) to serve by providing great, encouraging music and content for the student body to listen to and (2) to provide a great training ground for electronic media students to gain experience and develop their skills for the industries they will serve in beyond Cedarville.  Everything we do is for you, the students.  You are God’s people and we strive to serve God by serving His people.  Since the beginning of the semester, that’s been our prayer at every one of our weekly department head meetings.  Giving these prizes away is just one more way that we’re striving to serve you and Him.  Each one of these prizes is designed to help students take greater advantage of all that Resound has to offer, so we can better serve you with encouraging music and up-to-date information.

Resound is not about us, it’s about serving you.  That’s our motive behind playing the music that you want to hear, airing the content that you’re interested in, and updating our server so it’s easier than ever to listen.  We have great promotions for you and we record your favorite Bible verses to air on the station and make them our Verse of the Day.  We ask you questions for our Sidewalk Talk feature because we care about what you have to say.  We offer a great, entertaining evening show; daily campus and international news; and focused, specialty programming because of our commitment to serving you.  We work with the survey research class to conduct surveys every year because your listening habits are what matter.  Praise God that we understand it’s not about us.  Praise Him that we have a student body that we can serve through the best medium out there: radio.

We’ve been praying through all of this since the beginning.  We’ve seen God move and answer our prayers in such a way that leaves little doubt to Who’s in charge.  We love our jobs and enjoy serving the people of Jesus Christ.  On behalf of everyone at Resound, thanks for taking the time to read this and allowing us to explain why we do what we do.

Sincerely,

// Kevin Martelli, Station Manager, Resound Radio

October 26

Thanks for visiting ResoundRadio.com!  Hopefully you’ve clicked around a bit by now and have been listening to our stream and checking out all of the great content we have to offer.  But what you’re seeing isn’t the full picture just yet... We have more content to come!  As the year rolls on, we’ll have more artist interviews, movie reviews with Dr. Brown, shows specializing in rock music and even a classic rock show hosted by Craig Houser himself!

It’s been a lot of work to prepare all of this, but we’re excited to premiere it all for the first time.  When the department heads announced this new image to our staff, we received a great response, and we knew at that point the rest of the student body would also be excited for it.

And we can’t neglect the One who has made it all possible.  God has taught us quite a bit about depending on Him to see every detail through and our responsibilities to serve the student body through radio.  Glory be to Him for enabling us to do all of this.  He’s provided for us in more ways than we can count, and He’s given us a vision to encourage the student body through the coolest medium: radio!

Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.
